I’m currently immersed in a wide ranging study on biblical leadership and so quotes and articles on the subject easily catch my eye, as did this piece from Philip Towner’s excellent commentary on The Letters to Timothy and Titus (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2006 p269)
“Today…candidates for leadership in the church are often measured by the sort of criteria applied in the corporate setting, where education, innovation, and a youthful, energetic image (not to mention attractive, fashionable outward appearance) govern the “professional” profile. This is a power profile that, however applicable to corporate life with its high esteem for mobility and innovation, is drastically superficial and at odds with the kind of values that frame leadership in these texts.”
